The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
