The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
