So they went (their way) until when they embarked in the boat he made a hole in it. (Musa) said: Have you made a hole in it to drown its inmates? Certainly you have done a grievous thing. 71 He replied, "Did I not tell you that you would never be able to bear with me patiently?" 72 Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case." 73 and so they departed. Thereafter they met a boy and he killed him. He (Moses) exclaimed: 'What, have you killed a pure soul and it was not done (in retaliation) for a soul? you have done a terrible thing' 74 ۞ He replied: "Did I not tell thee that thou wilt never be able to have patience with me?" 75 Moses said, "If I ask you such questions again, abandon me; you will have enough reason to do so." 76 So they twain journeyed on till, when they came unto the folk of a certain township, they asked its folk for food, but they refused to make them guests. And they found therein a wall upon the point of falling into ruin, and he repaired it. (Moses) said: If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken payment for it. 77 He answered, "This is where you and I must part company. But first I will tell you the meaning of the things you could not bear with patiently. 78 That boat belonged to poor people who used to toil on the sea. I damaged it because there was a king after them who used to seize every ship by force. 79 As for the lad, his parents were people of faith, and we feared lest he should plague them with transgression and disbelief, 80 "So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection. 81 "As for the wall, it belonged to two youths, orphans, in the Town; there was, beneath it, a buried treasure, to which they were entitled: their father had been a righteous man: So thy Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure - a mercy (and favour) from thy Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience." 82
