Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
