۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
