When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 And the (cities were) right on the high-road. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
