Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
