The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
