He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
