The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ruin is for the defrauders. (Those who measure less.) 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 a written record, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
